Attention
to every drop
At The Balvenie we stay true to ourselves over the past 100 years, making whisky the way we always have, offering care and attention to every detail.
We are the only distillery in the Scottish Highlands that maintains the Five Rare Crafts of whisky making.
This is the only way to ensure that every drop of whiskey from our distillery deserves the name of The Balvenie.

Home-grown barley
The Balvenie is the only distillery in the Scottish Highlands that still grows and malts a proportion of its own barley. It is an arduous and costly process that makes The Balvenie single malt whisky unique, providing exceptional quality.
Malting floor
The Balvenie operates a working floor maltings, one of only a handful left in Scotland. Other distilleries purchase malted barley, but we believe that authentic taste and flavour can not be achieved by deviating from tradition.
Coppersmith craft
The shape and size of the copper stills are two of the most important factors affecting the taste of The Balvenie. Our stills have varied very little from when the distillery first opened. We are the only distillery in Scotland that still keeps a coppersmith on site.
Cooperage
According to experts, the barrel aging process of whiskey holds 60-80 percent of the entire flavor of the drink. The casks hold such importance to the taste of The Balvenie that we only entrust their preparation and maintenance to our on-site team of coopers stationed in our on-site cooperage.
Malt master
David has dedicated 58 years of his life to the Scotch whisky industry. His pioneering techniques have had a profound impact on the production methods used today. For his groundbreaking work he was presented with an MBE by Her Majesty The Queen.
Our process is a combination of expertise, passion and commitment to craftsmanship which gives The Balvenie its unique character.
